It wasn’t always clear to Santiago Salazar that somewhere inside him was a Lisa that would someday—a long time into the future—show herself to the world. Born in Colombia, Santiago grew up in California and moved to Vancouver in the early 1970s to start a successful career as a graphic designer and photographer.
After living the first forty eight years of life as Santiago, a married, heterosexual man and father of three children and devout Christian, Santiago was diagnosed with gender dysphoria, a term that describes the challenges, and opportunities, that some have with sexual identity. It would take almost ten more years to reconcile the diagnosis to his Christian faith before Santiago could decide to transition to womanhood. For someone who had been a husband and a father, it was the beginning an amazing new life.
Having recently completed her medical and surgical transformation, Lisa is ready to share the story of her journey as a transwoman and Christian; written with tenderness, humility, sensitivity and complete transparency. A must read for anyone who struggles to understand their own gender identity, or a friend's or loved one's—especially when faith is pivotal in their life.
Transparently is an engaging story, told by a brave woman who made the call to accept what she knew she was, and had always been.

Transparently Behind the Scenes of a Good Life eBook Lisa Salazar
Lisa's open and honest struggle trying to marry her gender identity with her Christian beliefs was helpful in seeing what one suffering from gender dysphoria goes through internally while trying to be true to God's Word. She brought up scripture that I had never noticed before or questioned its meaning because, in my world of "normalcy", being unmatched with my body never even was a thought to think about. It was helpful to read about Lisa's desire to follow Jesus and the journey that brought her peace. I am like Rachel, though. I feel the imminent death of the person I raised as a son. I am wondering how she is/has worked through that pain of loss even as the person she loves still lives, but not as the gender she related to since they first met.The sequence of events were not clear as Lisa went on tangents in her attempt to help the reader to understand the 'why' something was important to know before going ahead with the point of her story. Otherwise, this was a really good read in helping someone get a glimpse into the struggles of a person with gender dysphoria.

Transparently Behind the Scenes of a Good Life eBook Lisa Salazar Reviews
The most honest, life story I EVER read. Truly done with compassion, but most importantly truthful. This book helped me so very much to learn on our Transgender people and to reflect with loving kindness ....even if & when I don't comprehend.
This book is a very engaging read as Ms. Salazar takes the reader on a journey with the warmth of a conversation one might have over coffee. Her story is one of courage and candour and what is perhaps one of the most inspiring parts of this narrative is the inclusion of her faith journey. I highly recommend this read for anyone regardless of their beliefs or social location. Excellent stuff!
Lisa took us on a journey of her life from start to present time, giving us a thorough understanding of where she has been and how she arrived at the place of being Lisa. We are all to some extent a product of our environment and the background material gave a lot of depth to the story. I particularly empathised with her description of her spiritual struggles, defining her problem as an attack of the devil. Her account brought hope of acceptance, grace and love. I'm disappointed that I bought the version of this book, as it is one that I would love to pass on to others to read and be blessed by.
I have met some transgendered folks in my time, but I really never thought about the depth of their struggle or how would their world change once they step across the line. I love this book, it really helps me peer into this world and into the soul of one woman whose courage and journey are amazing. I bought another copy to give to a transgendered friend. She can't have mine! I'm keeping it!
Very helpful for anyone who is experiencing a family member transitioning. I had no idea of the emotional toll it takes on the person. I now have much greater empathy for the relative of mine who is just starting this process.
The realm of transgender people was something I knew very little about. As a person who likes to be well informed on a wide range of issues I was searching for a book that was appropriate to gain a solid understanding of transgender people. I also wanted a book that would neither sensationalize nor present a stereotypical image of transgender people. This book provided exactly what I was looking for - a well balanced, methodical, and personal account of someone who has been through it all. I had no idea.
Lisa presents her journey from early childhood through to her complete transition which will help the reader understand the emotional, physical, and intellectual aspects of a transgender person. As if that weren't enough, there is an added bonus. She is also a dedicated and conservative Christian who's faith is important and integral to her life as a transgender woman. This adds a spiritual fourth dimension to her story. Rather than deter her, it was her faith that helped her overcome all other obstacles.
She shares many of the acts of kindness and grace that her family, church, and even many fellow Christians bestowed upon her, as well as her work colleagues and her company's clients. Her tenacity as a transgender Christian is amazing.
If you, as I did, want to understand transgender people better I would highly recommend this book. If you are a person who may suspect that you may be transgender this book would be extremely useful. Last, if you are a Christian or a person of faith this book will enlighten and help eliminate many stereotypes that were once held about transgender people. I highly recommend it.
This first-person account of a Christian husband and father who transitions from Jim to Lisa is an honest, matter-of-fact window into what it's like to be transgender in the context of a "normal" upbringing, marriage, family, and career. The constant troubling sense that something is amiss led to emotional, mental, and spiritual agony, until Lisa finally got professional help and understood what her diagnosis meant. Her description of her interior life, with all its worries, confusion, regrets, pain, and shame, is a sharp contrast to the successful exterior life, and the reader feels an echo of the vast sense of relief that Lisa feels when she finally decides to accept her diagnosis, and herself, and start figuring out the next steps. While the book leaves the reader with unanswered questions, and seems a bit rushed at the end, it is a compelling account of an individual with an unusual condition, who learns about God's love and the love of family and friends in the face of incredible confusion and fear.
Lisa's open and honest struggle trying to marry her gender identity with her Christian beliefs was helpful in seeing what one suffering from gender dysphoria goes through internally while trying to be true to God's Word.
